Sometimes, I use music and sometimes I don't. It depends on the mood I am in, how many noises are happening around me that I might want to tune out, and what I am looking to get out of my meditation at that moment. There is no right or wrong; only what feels right at the time.

I agree with those who say....whatever feels right! :) Whatever helps you reach that zone of contentment, whether it be death metal or dead silence. Personally, I find it very difficult to center myself without some rhythmic noise pulsing through my head. Sometimes, my breathing is enough, or the birds, bees, wind, rain, thunder, fire....But sometimes my mother-in-law watches television or chats on the phone too loud. More often than not, I listen to music that soothes and inspires me.

What music? Maori haka, monk chant, didgeridoo, Disturbed, Alice In Chains, Candy Claws....Music doesn't need to be "spiritual" to be spiritual. One of my best meditation experiences involved listening to Alice In Chains and Mad Season on YouTube, which guided me into a trance-like bliss with epiphany after epiphany. It was rather pleasant.
