Directed or Incubated dreaming?

Hello!

I want to use dreams to help me remember some past experiences that were somewhat traumatic or at the very least stressful. Does anyone have any advice for helping me achieve that? My experiences with dreams is that I sometimes write affirmations before going to sleep in order to train myself to wake up in the middle of the night and write my dreams down. But last night I didn't do that because I just had a dream about my uncle and telekinesis (I was telekinetically moving a pen/pencil around) and I didn't think it was significant enough to write down, although I could be wrong (or enlighten me - I might be totally wrong!).

Also - if anyone has any great books about dreaming and how to train yourself to use dreaming towards insightful remembering of the past that would also be really helpful!
