Post Money and Masters.

Hi All,

I found some threads about money, like for examples :

https://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/s...ighlight=Money
«*Money*»
https://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/s...ighlight=Money
«*Money - The "Want" and the "Need*»*»
https://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/s...ighlight=Money
«*Is money the root of all evil*»

I wanted here to have some of your views about so called Masters of spirituality, and religions, being in some kind of strange process.

We all know supposed human beings awake, and some mastering the money process through their state of awakening.

Krishnamurti was asking $800, for a week of teachings.

Mr. Eckhart Tolle $800 for 3 days and 5.000 persons ten years ago ($4.000.000 before taxes). Now from 57 to $227 for an evening and 4000 persons. Then earning around $300.000 for an evening. 44 CDs from 8 to $50. 20 DVD 10-$50. 9 Books. A net worth of $80 millions.

The 14th Dalai Lama in 1959 : 160,000 taels of gold, 95 million taels of silver, 20,000 jewels and jades, 10,000 silk and fur garments, including around 100 coats encrusted with jewels and precious stones, 27 mansions, 30 pastures as well as 6,000 serfs. Asking $120 for 12,000 persons in one of his meeting. Now $150.000.000 in 2021 ; I know, you’ll say he is not an awaken. But still considered to be a Spiritual Master for many. Even with the argument of sharing with lots of charity associations. Forget the placements in the Banks of Calcutta.

Osho - sensitive subject - the billionaire…

And we all know many teachers in Youtube selling their books, retreats, and so on.

There is an Indian story telling that when a yogi is lost in a deep samadhi, you need to find a Christian priest to touch him and then the yogi will come back in the world. Because a priest winning money for a spiritual teaching is considered impur, and thus cut the purity of a samadhi/state of supraconsciousness/purity.

Another story tells us that a Yogi was friend with animals in a forest. But one day, his favorite animals refused to approach him. He thought, why ? And realized that he was having money in one of his pocket, received from selling a house. He buried that money, and then, the animals come back again to feel his caresses.

Some will say that money is what you do with that.

Imo, money is a poison.
One coin of 1 cent, or $1 billion, it will always be a poison.
The Indian traditions tell us that money is managed by asuras, given by a demon of lies.

Can a Christian imagine Jesus marketing a parable for 30 coins of gold ?
Can a buddhist imagine the buddha saling an awakening for 100,000 rupees ?
To late for the rabbins. And many imams.

By the way,
What are your opinions about the subject of Masters mastering money.

(! Promotion of the day : for a given answer, one reply and two questions are offered !)

Best regards,
R.

Money may be the root of all evil but every church/religion asks for it.
Try living your life without money, just for 1 week or so and see how impractical it is.
This is the world we live in, and if we choose not to engage with the material world, in my opinion we're of little use spiritually no matter how advanced our practice may be.
Good luck and best wishes

I think there is a big difference from needing money to survive and greed. I have no problem with a teacher of anything asking for a reasonable amount of money. It is the ridiculous christian televangilists and gurus asking for more than they could ever use. If they shared it with people who were down and out that would be different, but many have too many cars, mansions, airplanes etc. That should be a good clue that their teachings are worthless.

It isn't easy trying to balance that. You have something people want to learn and you have a mortgage the if not paid puts you on the street, it is reasonable to charge for your lessons.
