is their such thing as natural contraceptive??

I was on a hormonal birth-control for a few months for regulating my period and elimminating my extreamly painful cramps. It worked great i was regular and i had no cramps what so ever. After a few months i had to stop taking it . I was having sharp chest pain and my acute photo-sensitivity (sun allergy) i forget what the actual name for it is worsened. On the label it said may cause sensitivy to light. I normally only get rashes if im out in the sun for a few hours without sun screen but after being on birth-control for about a month during the summer i would be out for 5 minutes and get sun blisters and benine tummors. Im not sure if it was the birth control causing this but after i went off it this probblem went away.

My family doctor and my gyno both said the birth-control wouldnt afffect my condition but my dermitologist said it would, now im really confused. If i decide to get together with a partner in the futher it would be nice to have a contraceptive. I dont want to uses Idu's or the like. I really dont want to get pregant now and somtimes condoms arnt enough.

So i was wondering if their is any safe (minimal side effects), natural contraceptives not abortificides that anyone knows of? Are herbal contraceptives dangerous? Im not sure if the hormonal contraceptives are up setting my condition and if they are what is it in them that could be causing this? iF ANYONE has info or ideas i would like to hear them weather or not you are a naturalopath or the like. thank you

Hormonal contraceptives make me very depressed, so I take Queen Annes Lace - you can take the seeds, but I take a tincture. So far I haven't had any trouble, I have been taking it since before Christmas. There have been small studies done on it that have shown it to be effective - but no large scale scientific studies, so doctors won't recommend it.

You take it 8-12 hours after intercourse and it makes the uterus inhospitable and so prevents implantation from occurring.

Redundancy With Birth Control Methods

Being aware that we are fertile in the middle of our cycle can help avoid pregnancy. Or at the very least encourage one to be VERY vigilant about using multiple methods of birth control during this critical week. Just because one is fertile in the middle of the cycle doesn’t mean that birth control should be ignored early or late on in the cycle. Many have gotten pregnant using the rhythm method when they thought they were in a safe zone.

Using multiple forms of birth control can be useful. Redundancy helps increase effectiveness. Combine foam or another topical vaginal spermicide w/ a condom. Don’t rely on just one to be effective. If having sex multiple times, reapply the spermicide. A pharmacist once told me that spermicides are VERY date dependent, so pay attention to the ‘use by’ date on these & replace before the date expires to be safe.

Even if using supplements as a contraceptive I would combine these w/ more traditional methods. There could be allot of reasons why a supplement might not work such as it being out of date or not the strength one expected. The nuances of our body & how effectively we absorb nutrients could also affect this.

Good for you for paying attention to the side effect.

Wow thankyou for this thread as I had to stop my birth control pills as well and all we use are condoms because my husband is dragging his feet at having a vasectomy so I've told him that I will have the baby if I get pregnant and he can do whatever he wants so he knows the consequences. Anyways I'm going to avidly read this site and look into the herbal solution that was recommended in this thread.
