In my understanding, Kundalini awakening is a surge of prana or life-energy entering the system resulting in an expanded state of consciousness leading to effortless nondual perception.

I have had such experiences in an ashram where there was an experience of blossoming of consciousness, without any compulsive, unconscious thoughts to have a dualistic perception.

It happened very spontaneously and was a very blissful experience. I enjoyed it while it lasted.

The energy surge that comes with a kundalini awakening should be channeled in the right direction . If not, this heightened energy can result in heavy sexual desires and activity. This energy is essentially sensual in nature.

This is the reason why many well-intentioned priests and religious people of all religions suddenly get heavily involved in sexual activity and affairs and even getting involved in scandals. This is due to lack of proper understanding of the kundalini process which affects each and every body without exception.

So the kundalini awakening or surge is a process which everyone should be aware of so they can understand the reason for a sudden change in energy levels and feelings.

A disciplined lifestyle, regular exercise and knowledge of the process of kundalini awakening can enable one to control and direct this heightened energies to the right channel resulting in expanded states of blissful consciousness.
