I have a few on my bedside table, a mix of large jasper and agate tumbles (various, natural colours) a large moonstone, amethyst, rose quartz and a goethite/quartz specimen.

A piece of black obsidian I picked up years ago, when I was only 11, and living in a Rocky Mountains town. It was something I found, was drawn to you could say, in the ruins of an old mining town that family had stumbled across while hiking. We used to hike for hours. It was an interesting place because despite being obviously abandoned there was a cattle herd - long horns - on the outskirts and this was in the middle of forested mountain terrain [not easy cattle country].
The stone was about as large as a large marble [the "shooter" marbles as they are sometimes called], already incredibly smooth and polished nicely. It caught my eye and I pocketed it, taking it home with me. It was mum's sister who suggested an old Russian jeweler about three years later, and it became the main part of the necklace, sided by six pieces of moldavite. It is completed by smaller snowflake obsidian beads that I wear constantly. It was my grandmother's gift as the Moldavite comes from her ancestor's home country, it has been passed down mother to daughter but last I checked dad wasn't a woman & neither was his brother. I never take it off unless getting in the tub / shower.
So black & snowflake obsidian & moldavite. Black onyx, with silver beading, in a bracelet from a very close family friend goes under the pillow. Never needed a change.

My beautiful rose quartz. It seemed like it wanted to come with me when I went to bed, so I brought it, but I had one of the worst nights I've ever had. Won't do that again.
