Does Maitreya also fall into the category of Folklore, Myths and Legends'?

The JātakaTales appear to be mostly derived from vernacular Indian folk tales, fables and legends in mixed prose and verse. Like the lives of the Buddha, they are not sectarian, as many Jātakas are shared among traditions. Some of the stories are related to Brahmanical legends, such as those found in the Rāmayaṇa and Mahābharata, while others show similarities to Aesop's fables and other world literature. While most of the Jātakas contain a “moral”, in most cases these pertain to simple and universal ideas, such as non-violence or honesty, and only a few of the stories feature distinctively Buddhist ideas. A typical Jātaka tale features a conflict or challenge, which the hero overcomes through his courage, intelligence, or other virtues. The hero of the story is identified with the Buddha, while other characters in the story are often identified with familiar associates of the Buddha, such as his close disciples, family, or Devadatta as the antagonist.'

The Buddhavaṃsa chronicles the mythical lineage of 24 buddhas who preceded the actual human Siddhartha Gautama.
As for Maitreya I'll leave that for you to work out

In the East, what the West calls 'folk tales, fables and legends' is accepted as 'fact'.

What I have also noticed is that Western Buddhists seem to 'pick at' Judaism, Christianity and Islam over 'folk tales, fables and legends' whereas Eastern Buddhists do not.

What some Buddhists call 'folk tales, fables and legends' in Buddhism way outshine anything the Old Testament has to 'offer'.

Medhaṅkara Buddha
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

Medhaṅkara Buddha, is briefly mentioned in the Buddhavamsa. He is mentioned along with the first four Buddhas.

"Inneumarable aeons ago, Taṇhaṅkara Buddha (1st Buddha), Medhaṅkara Buddha (2nd Buddha - the Buddha we are talking about), Saraṇaṅkara Buddha (3rd Buddha) and Dīpaṃkara Buddha (4th Buddha) were born in the Sāramaṇḍa kalpa."

Kalpa generally gets translated as Aeon (time period for a particular World). Sāramaṇḍa is the name of that time period and is the World where the first four Buddhas were born.

The one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha, became a disciple of Medhaṅkara Buddha. He asked for a wish to be granted, but the wish was not granted. The one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha asked the same wish to the 1st, 3rd and 4th Buddha. The 2nd and 3rd Buddha did not grant him his wish but the 4th Buddha did. The wish was that in the future, the one who would later be known as Gotama Buddha would become a Buddha.

Medhaṅkara Buddha went on and lived a long life, about 90,000 years.
Contrast this with Taṇhaṅkara Buddha who had a life span of about 100,000 years.

If people in the East accept this as FACT I wonder why they never question who was it that counted the years they lived

I am lucky to live in a Country that keeps Birth Records but not all Countries do and their are people who do not know their age.
How would someone in the East explain the size of these Buddha's, did they have Hight Charts or maybe Tape Measure long enough....
Common sense goes a long way.....
