Beginner with Auras & Chakras
This has been a long interest of mine for a long time now. I'm planning on buying some books soon and begin meditating. Since I'm a beginner at this, do you have any suggestions or helpful advice for me? I'd truly appreciate it a lot, thank you! Anything you add will be extremely helpful.

Awesome, have fun with it! Do pranayama for sure.
Some of the best instruction uses specific breathing techniques to pinpoint key areas but activating the centers permanently usually requires a guru to transmit shakti to you.

It may be prudent to first deal with blockages (fears, desires, beliefs) and only then attempt (if at all, actually not even then) kundalini activation. Otherwise there can be considerable trauma.
It sounds fashionable to talk about kundalini & chakras but in most cases people don’t know what it actually represents.
In actuality of being, if we refine our sensibilities and become both pure & gentle, choosing to be joyful, helpful, then in stillness (meditation), when inner silence becomes our dominant orientation, the kundalini is activated automatically, if it needs to be. In some cases there is simply a spontaneous arising of grace or the awakening may be silent but unmistakable.
Let the experience follow or result from consciousness correction, our alignment with genuine, nonjudgmental love. If we are not ready, so to speak and simply do a this or that practice or even shaktipat (energy transfer from a ‘guru’) … well, then in my opinion, we are asking for trouble.
With the aim of spirituality being firstly recognising who we are (what is soul or self?) and seeing God face to face, nothing less should suffice. I’d recommend thought rested stillness or let’s say meditation along with observing our thoughts, words and deeds periodically, softening and gentling each activity.
Kundalini activation will automatically happen on its own. In fact, there are several levels of activation, so comparing ourselves with the Joneses is a never ending task, driven by ego (identity that feels separate from source).

Remember to trust yourself. There are a lot of rules out there when it comes to chakras and meditating. Make sure you are taking on "rules" that serve you, and not ones that limit you.
Meditation is something that we may learn through another, but is something that we eventually develop into our own way and practice.
Have fun with it all :) I love all kinds of meditation, including chakra ones.

Make sure you take what UnseekingSeeker said into consideration for sure.
You started a thread in the chakras section so I think we are presuming your meditation work is aimed at that?
You're not likely to hurt yourself doing book meditations as I haven't seen any that actually tells you exactly what to do that's effective towards this but have fun and keep your intention strong! If you happen to cross paths with a Guru that can help you further you'll need them of you're actually going to start playing with divine energies.

Enchanted, my personal opinion is DONT mess around with any chakra/kundalini type meditations until you are a bit further along the path and you have engaged with an experienced teacher.
Just stay with easy, soft, relaxing techniques ie watching the breath, scanning the body or counting, say ten minutes a day and gradually build up from there.

Hello
Start with the basics first that is the learning about things before the doing part takes place.
Read up on the Chakra's before you do any sort of meditations for them. Learn their meanings and how they "feel" within you, keep notes.
NEVER try a Kundalini Awakening Meditation unless you are truly ready for that one as it can toss life into the worst of places at times one can find.
Learn to Ground and feel grounded, learn some basic breathing exercises and take it all slow.
When it comes to finding a teacher here too be careful out there and learn to "FEEL" that gut response is this the right person for me. Its the same with things like Decks of Cards and Crystals they will call to you and resonate with you when you take the brain out of the equation.
Clear intentions ! Clear thoughts and never force doors to open too fast.
I was in my 40's when I got my first Tarot Card Deck yet I could read them without having a deck in the physical form they just would show to me. I now have many decks but one I go to. One that called out that it was right for me to be connected too and use. Man I have burned though so many decks of it and change out so many damaged cards at times in it.
