Today was my first day of quitting smoking.
My 4th attempt I believe since I've tried to since 2020. Succeeded for almost the entire year in 2023, began smoking again in Feb/Mrch last year.
Today was a tough one. Normally when I want to quit the first day isn't too bad, but today was hard.
I have smoked a little here and there.
Last time about 1,5 hrs ago and boy was it gross!!!
That never ceases to amaze me: don't smoke for 2-3 hours and already it tastes absolutely horrible! The addiction makes you smoke regardless, but now I have to break that habit.
As that's all it is: a habit, a program of the subconscious. Those aren't easy to change but it is possible.
Part is willpower and creating a new habit, another part can be using self-hypnosis for when you're in Theta brainwaves (shortly before you fall asleep) or in deep meditation.
I believe EFT works on that too.
In any case, I'm going to try and persevere.
I got a coach in from the smoke-free-and-fit organisation to help me. I also got a handbook from them which has helped me gain some insights. And she has ordered the patches for me.
I cannot quit without patches.
Currently it's 22.32 (10.32). I hope I will make it without again cheating before bed, haha.
I've created a reward system. I will do that before bed.
I have small notes in a large pot with words written on them. Each is a goal I'd like to save money for, like plants for the garden, crystal, clothes, and so on.
Not smoking saves me E4 a day, so the idea is to pull 4 notes from the pot and put E1 euro in a savings thingie for that particular goal.
I got 8 different goals and also 8 "pots" for each goal.
In 2020 I was saving for a holiday to Scotland and it really inspired me! I was thrilled to see the amount of money grow. I took the money I used to blow up in smoke per week out of the ATM and put it into a saving box.
Now that doesn't inspire me anymore, and I need more short-term goals. Things that give more instant / fast gratification, hihi.
Hence the current idea & system.
So tonight I will put the first E4 in the saving pots, depending on which 4 notes I pull.
Hoping that will keep me strong concerning quitting!
Wish me luck please!!

Hi Fairy.
Reference to post #30.
Thanks for the info... I'll look them up .
I fully understand what you're saying about cancer, strokes and heart disease etc. I think we all know of people that have overcome these conditions and gone on to live a normal and healthy life .
However, no one sadly has ever recovered and lived a normal healthy life with what I've see got ( CPFE .... Combined lung fibrosis and emphysema ).
Once you've got it you've got it.
There's no treatment , no cure, and no turning it back.
But I DO agree that I can do something about it with how I deal with it.
And the only way I can deal with it is to manage it on a daily basis and trust me that I do everything I can to help myself.
The first and most obvious thing I did was stop smoking !!!!
That was over 4 years ago, ....
As my health has worsened over the years I have / and still do, everything I can to keep active and do as much exercise as possible.
This is contained within my home as outdoor activities are no longer possible for me.
I have taken part in a 3 month pulmonary rehabilitation programme which taught me which exercises I can do on a daily basis. They are very basic of course, but invaluy all the same.
Other than that I make myself get up about every 15 minutes to walk around and "do something", even if it's only to go and wash a cup in the kitchen.
Also I have an exercise bike set up in the lounge .
So basically I'm doing all I can whilst I still can , to keep as active as possible.
Hoping you're doing ok with your current attempt to stop smoking .

my dr sent me to classes at the hospital... they gave out free patches and we would meet once a week to talk about things related to smoking/quitting and how we were doing. That helped immensely...

Falling Leaves In a way I would've liked to do the coaching in a group too as I do feel that will have an added benefit.
You can kinda carry each other, re-inspire each other etc.
As it is my coaching is solo.
Coaching is required if you want to get the patches for free. Danged things are expensive, but healthcare covers the cost once a year provided you get coaching.
Yesterday I finally got through my first day of not smoking at all :)

AngelBlue please read my posting again. I did say 100% recovery. Even from stage 4 cancer.
Now if that can cure 100% I'd say anything else can too. And it does. Check testimonials on Dr Joe's channel on YT.

Thanks I will...
But you know, I really AM positive with it all and I'm doing really well with the prognosis of my condition ( which is terminal) .
I stay positive and upbeat and I'm almost 4 and a half years into it now . My lungs and chest nurses are really really pleased with my progress.
Not only do I keep as positive and active as possible but I keep my mind active and alert too.
I love quizzes and word games and take part in 2 word game tournaments every week.
I set myself goals also to aim for that might be a year or two in the future . Plus I'm very stubborn, so I'm not going to let this thing get the better of me without a fight !!!
I've had a proper "test" these last few weeks in that I've had a dreadful flu virus since just after Christmas and I'm still not completely over it . It has put tens of thousands of people in hospital to the point that the hospitals can't cope , but I've got through it .
So I reckon I'm fighting this thing and my body is doing an amazing job in keeping me as healthy as possible.
