I used to roll my eyes at this kind of stuff

I was raised in the Catholic Church, and needless to say, any spiritual path besides Christianity (and maybe Judaism) was written off as false or self-serving at best and demonic at worst. I left the religion shortly after reaching young adulthood and coming to terms with the fact that I could never be fully accepted within its institutions. I am exclusively attracted to the same sex, and according to church teachings, my only options were lifelong celibacy or a "mixed-orientation marriage." I chose instead to marry the woman I love, and we've been together for the past 12 years.

Despite falling out with my religion and making half-hearted attempts at atheism, I have remained deeply spiritual. While I have never had any earth-shattering mystical experiences, I still pray, meditate, and occasionally hear voices. Sometimes I receive what I believe to be signs or divine communication. I have long been fascinated with near-death experiences, past-life/pre-birth memories, and chakras.

After the lockdown, I had a bit of a mental health crisis. Basically, the pandemic made my whole life spiral out of control, which brought to the surface all of the religious trauma and toxic beliefs from my childhood. I spent almost the entirety of the time between 2020 and 2023 in a perpetual state of anger, anxiety, and self-loathing. After spending the better half of three years discarding toxic old beliefs and self-destructive thoughts/tendencies, I am finally cultivating a genuine sense of self-love that I thought I could live without. It has also somehow reignited my interest in spiritual topics and practices. I look forward to exploring these topics further with all of you on this forum.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

I used to roll my eyes as hard as possible for it to be heard miles away, yet here I am.
