Not because it was a great read (i.e. hard going) but for its insights and practical exercises,

The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle - deservedly a best seller

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Seth books by Jane Roberts. Just don't read them like a Bible.

The first spiritual text I read, and it provided me with a good foundation for spiritual liberation along with Adyashanti's books 'Emptiness Dancing' and 'The End of Your World'.

The one that helped me the most, though, was probably 'Ordinary Freedom' by Jon Bernie (his other book, 'The Unbelievable Happiness of What Is' is also very good), whose compassionate, wise teachings I stumbled across at a very difficult and painful time in my life and which I'd highly recommend to anyone else who's having a hard time coming to terms with grief, loss, intense fear, or any other sort of emotional upheaval.
