The Mind House is very common around Barcelona. Antonio Gaudi dominates the city as much as Makintosh dominates Glasgow. The Gherkin in London was very strange when it was first built, but isn’t so much now because it has been camouflaged by tall buildings around it. Lloyds of London follows the Pompidou Centre in Paris (same architect) in looking like it has been turned inside out.

I love strange and curious looking buildings, and hearing others’ interpretations of them. Sydney Opera House for instance, has been described as a typewriter full of oyster shells, or nuns in a rugby scrum. I have always thought that the AMP Centrepoint Tower is a golden Chuppa Chup lolly, and the Berlin TV Tower, a wacky biro pen found in a gift shop. Then you like say that St. Basil’s Cathedral or Brighton Pavillion have been piped out of icing bags, or that the Eiffel Tower (when seen from a certain angle) resembles a clown on a pair of green water skis.
