A lot of the foods that are bad for us feed the opiate receptors in the brain. When we crave foods we are actually being prompted by this opiate center to "feed it".

When I talk about foods that are bad for us, I usually get a blank stare from the person I am talking to. I believe we, as a population, are addicted to what we eat.

So it stands to reason people don't want to change their (bad) eating habits.

Yes, we are living in a 'brainwashed world' but what can you or anybody else do about it? the answer is nothing.

I have spent the past week going on about how people don't have the right to interpret my personal experiences based on their own beliefs, however, I gave them that right by speaking about my experiences in the first place.

It has reached a sad and sorry point where all I can say is; "well, this is what I feel/believe and so what if you don't" or "I'm just going to shut up now ".

Being spiritual has made me very self-centred, but I haven't learned yet how to respect the beliefs of others who disrespect my own.

Maybe next lifetime...or the one after that...

I really wished everyone was brainwashed. It should be mandatory. Peoples brains are filled with all kinds of rubbish. Religious rubbish, political rubbish, spiritual rubbish, and so on and so on. We need to wash all that rubbish out of our brains so we can function more clearly. Give ourselves a nice good brainwashing so we can have a clean, fresh brain to use efficiently. People are against brainwashing because they cling to that rubbish. They are identified with it.

Because the system has been set up that way.
In western countries the industrial revolution is seen to be the beginning of this. The Prodestant work ethic was instilled as a way of getting us to work. Value and identity in ones job. This was set up so the rich land owners could get the peasants to work in all the new factories being made.
Jump forward a hundred years or so and you have marketing strategies specifically targeting our emotions to get us to buy their products. In this they have told us what it is to be human, male, female etc. Playing on our fears and insecurities is common practice to keep us away from the truth. We are brainwashed because the powers that be have specifically set it up that way so they can keep making profits or gaining power.

There's actually some great content in your post. I steer away from terms like 'brainwashing' because I'm not all that much of a sensationalist, but I often talk about the ways in which we are normalised. I use 'normalised' so as to articulate the subtlety ... where the normal is invisiblised but stands as a quality against which the 'abnormal' is understood. For example, I wonder at the term 'people of colour' (which means 'not a white person'). "White", in this case, is the invisible norm because they are assumed to not have a colour. This brings up the issue of the Not, which relegates some as the Others... Because the Others are not 'invisibly normal' they are the externalised visible definer for what normal is. It is against the Other that we know how to behave normally.
