This is a serious concern, and honestly, I didn't think about it until now. Wow. I do wonder how to go about buying crystals ethically. I might start asking where stores and vendors get their supply and research it. Hm....

The problem is that even the sellers seldom know where their supplies come from, other than perhaps the country of origin. But even that information is often deliberately falsified. It's not always easy for precious gem dealers to source from ethical companies and mines, so it's not hard to imagine how difficult (or impossible) it is for crystal dealers (using the term broadly). Unless someone has actually made several inspection trips (mostly unannounced), it's really impossible to truly know if the stones are ethically sourced.

This is one reason I stopped buying crystals long ago. There can be serious environmental damage, use of child labor or slave or near-slave labor, and more.
