To me, spirituality is like a large umbrella with many holes ... :) Some people get sheltered, others get wet.

The point of spirituality may be different for each person, and I can only speak for myself. Spirituality to me is and oasis in and otherwise chaotic world. I do quiet meditation and go on camping trips to nurture myself spiritually beyond what devised methods society may have established for worship. I know in my heart that if not for my own spiritual presence, and me being conscious of it, my physical body would have died a long time ago. Spirituality renders more benefits to me than I can list. For me there is not just one point to it, rather it is all encompassing. It is a lifestyle.

The 'point' of spirituality, IMO, is to realize one's spiritual nature, which is in union with all that is. It is to realize our infinite aspect.

From my previous answer, one might ask, "What is the point of spiritual union?"

What is meant by spiritual union is to realize our Oneness, our connectedness with everyone and every thing. To realize this is to realize the reality of our inter-dependence - it is to realize the basis of true morality through understanding, empathy and compassion. It is to learn to make a better world for everybody.

This is what every great spiritual leader throughout history was on about.

Well said and very much agree with it.

The dictionary definition of 'spirit' is "The vital animating principal of something." Therefore, to pursue spirituality is to become aware of 'the vital animating principal', the nonphysical essence, of things. The definition of 'metaphysical' is 'beyond the physical'. Therefore, the path of spirituality is a path of opening awareness, of raising consciousness beyond physical causes and appearances.

As you become more and more aware, you will naturally be opening your awareness and raising your consciousness to Spirit, which leads naturally to union with Spirit. The further you follow this process, the more in union you will be with it. This is why it leads inexorably towards empathy, compassion, understanding - all 'spiritual' values flow naturally from the continuation of this process, as you gain a deeper and fuller awareness of Spirit.

All the trappings of spirituality - the meditation, the monasteries, the discipline, the techniques, the self-reflection, etc - are but a means to an end, aimed at reorienting from the egoic (physical) perspective to the spiritual perspective. Ultimately, it leads to complete union, complete awareness, infinite expansion.

Wow, a person into spirituality that doesn't seem to LARP as a guru, and speaks as if what they are saying is just their opinion, and not a sort of of eternal truth.

I appreciate ya.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

LARP = Live Action Role Play. In other words pretending to be something one is not.
