Sorry, I missed this. Some forums give notifications when we are quoted.

As I see it God (Reality-as-is) wants the very best for us. Meister Eckhart, in his sermon on True Poverty, spoke of the ultimate poverty...Eckhart asks us to listen carefully! He states that God in fact does not seek a "place" within us to act, but rather in true poverty God performs his own active work within us. "If God wishes to act in the soul he must himself be the place in which he can act, and this he is certainly willing to be........ In this poverty, we attain again the eternal being which we once enjoyed, which is ours now and shall be for ever."

This is Grace. God is his own gift.

Thomas Merton quotes Eckhart when he says:- “In giving us His love God has given us the his spirit so that we can love Him with the love wherewith He loves Himself.” (Merton assures us that such is perfectly orthodox Christian teaching)

D.T.Suzuki saw Eckharts words as a theistic expression of "prajna intuition", the heart of zen.

Whatever is thought of all this (and it seems to frighten some Christians) it points to the way Buddhists seek to become Buddhas, while many Christians seek only to follow Jesus, who was Christ.

What do you believe frightens some Christians? That was not clear. Your whole post there seems to be very Christian to me. It's not Christians who deny a Creator God and a permanent eternal soul, it's Buddhism. Though I would not say Buddhist's are "frightened" to believe in a Creator God or a permanent eternal soul. They just don't believe they exist.

Pope Francis is a Christian and denies a ' Creator God ' as do many others. This is what He said.....
When we read the creation story in Genesis we run the risk of imagining that God was a magician, with a magic wand which is able to do everything.

Is this ok with the Buddhists here to be bringing up so much Christian stuff?
Just wondering, ha, not as a Mod.

Just saw this:"...while many Christians seek only to follow Jesus, who was Christ."- Cobbler
Wow, that is so not true.

Follow up on sky123's post: On October 27, 2014, Pope Francis issued a statement at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences that
"Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation," warning against thinking of
God's act of creation as "God [being] a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything."

Whatever all that means can be found on line.

Not really, Buddhism has a lot of similarities to Christianity when considering how to conduct one's self.

As for walking the noble 8-fold path and deep diving into practicing what the Buddha thought. There's "not unlike in Christianity" very few who do.
