My interpretation of enlightenment is the when you have realised the maturity of your soul from the understandings of duality and the balance they have with one another through to the letting go of ego and the change of your current paradigm (old version to new).

It should be noted that in Buddhism enlightenment is quite a specific term -

fFrom the article above:
"Can one become enlightened while being a family person."
One who follows the Noble Eightfold Path can enter the 'stream' leading to enlightenment and progress further in the spiritual path while leading an ordinary life. The life of a monk, free from responsibilities and toils of normal life will no doubt help the spiritual progress. The ancient texts describe many instances where lay persons have attained enlightenment at the time of the Buddha. Usually, such persons would have followed a path of spiritual development in their previous existences.

A person who has reached the final stages of enlightenment will no longer have any desire to continue in a domestic environment."

Knowing oneself completely is enlightenment. As it is said that humans are some sort of miniature version of the universe so that implies that by knowing oneself completely one becomes omniscient thus attains enlightenment.

With love,
Sanjay

Very illuminating article (one might even say enlightening, if one were slightly unbearable), thanks for sharing, JASG.

It has been a year since you posed the question. You thanked everyone who has replied but engaged none in discussion.

Strange.

Best answer, my opinion.
