When you meditate and reach a deep state, your body also slows down - you heart slows down and your breathing too; At one point, if you reach very deep state, even the outside sound disappears, it happened to me several times, it's quite amazing! Usually, when I stop, I have tons of energy and I can't go to sleep, I end up sleeping in the morning, but this only happens if when I stop meditating, I decide to do some activities, otherwise, I fall asleep right away.

From my own experience, it's feels so much better when there's no breathing and I find myself not breathing many times, of course, the body reactivates the breathing, you just can't fully stop. Also, from my own experience, the heart beats so slow that it takes some really good time for the next beat to come, sometimes you wonder if your heart is still beating.

In some respect it may be viewed as hibernation, but then again sleep can also be viewed as a form of hibernation,
and we humans sleep approximately 1/3 of our lives; a lot more than most people meditate.
