i tried living in communal situations. the situations always started out well enough. sadly they fell apart because there always seemed to be those who worked consistantly for the health of the commune and those who lost their motivation to contribute and sat on their butts all day. the larger membership the more oppertunity to hide behind the efforts of others and simply be a parasite. parasites drain the communal energy and create a "why should I bust my butt while So&so gets a free ride" apathy. the apathetic parasite mentality spreads until there's so few folks taking care of business that they get worn out, discourage and have to give up and so the commune swirls down the toilet.

due to the consensus based governance of these communal situations solutions to the the "Lazy *** Effect" were never found. you can't get rid of a parasite by consensus if even one person finds the parasite worthy of remaining in residence.

Hello

I feel we are here to learn and explore and not live lumped in one avenue. That said for some if that be one's choice ( sadly at times its not for children ) then to each their own.

I would not trade for the World where I live now. I feel that I live communal. I am in a small private housing developement. We all own our home, and we are Strata so there is common grounds and its commonly cared for. The houses all match to the other in styles and yards upkeep. We are a mix of one's with kids and no kids and we all get along. We were the FIRST in and with kids we so hoped that would attract more with families and it did. We have group BBQ's and our kids all play.

I too live in a small city, that is toruist based for a large part (Summer can start any time now please ) and I very much feel communial there too but too free to do as I wish and explore where I wish. I can walk to anywhere I need to go ( as I do not drive ) and I feel safe.

Lynn
