I don't know why anyone would ask if people are comfortable with the custom...unless they aren't ? I don't think anyone is out there insisting they must also use that spelling.

When I see G-d or God written in text, I almost always replace it with how the word was pronounced 'sort of' in Hebrew, and that is Elohim.

Genesis 1:1 reads in Hebrew as:

and Genesis 1:1 reads in Greek as:

ἐν ἀρχῇ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν


The Hebrew word that gets translated, unfortunately into English as God is אֱלֹהִים which sounds in Hebrew almost like Elohim. When they translated that word into Greek, the Greek did not have a corresponding word. What they should have done is used the Greek alphabet to produce a Greek word that sounds very close to the Hebrew word Elohim. But they did not do that but instead used a word in Greek that means God/god.

The Hebrew word אֱלֹהִים is not identical to the Greek word θεὸς.

Because of translation irregularity, some of the meaning of the word Elohim got lost.
