Brahmakumari Pari on the necessity of thought management for proper life management

An excerpt from the book 'How to think' by Sister Pari of the Prajapita Brahmakumaris on the necessity of thought management for proper life management...

Quote:
What we think in the mind is reflected in our words and karma/actions, and it leads to the formation of habits. Our collection of karma, and habits, create our destiny. For this reason, we should be more careful of what we think.

~Brahmakumari Pari ( Extract from book 'How to think' )

A problem is solved by making an indepth study, understanding its root causes and managing it intelligently.

Here we find the Prajapita Brahmakumaris stating that the habits and characters we develop have their root cause in the thoughts we allow ourselves to think.

Rather than allowing our compulsive thoughts and emotions to propel us to compulsive behavior and activities, by being aware of our thoughts in the first place, we can put a rein on our turbulent thoughts and emotions and restrain them from carrying us to activities which are wasteful and shallow, and instead divert these energies to productive channels.

Thumbs up

Thought control or management is a must.
I have practiced it diligently for well over a decade.
It saves me!
What nonsense the mind spews out between our ears!
You have to manage it.

We have the wheel in our hands to steer the rudder of our boat...ya can't
let the wind just blow you all over the place!

Great topic!!!!!!!

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

This says it all in about six or seven minutes. The power of decision and its window of opportunity.

We have a tiny fraction of a second to consciously recognize what arises from the subconscious and decide whether or not to act it out, and this is where meditation is a powerful tool. When clarity and discernment are cultivated to a sufficient level that window seems to expand. I don't know if it's a sort of time dilation but to me it seems like time does slow down and I am much more aware as the first tiny seed of a thought begins to bubble up out of the subconscious, thereby strengthening and empowering the power of decision.

Yeah, thought or mindmanagement is a necessary skillset to navigate and sail safely through the ocean of life avoiding the rocks, storms and sandbanks leading to shipwreck.

By being self-aware we can consciously respond to problems and minimise them instead of compulsively reacting to issues and exacerbating them. The goal of meditation and spiritual exercise is to bring about this self-awareness and ability to choose a positive and rational attitude in all circumstances.

Very well stated.

Often the rush of emotions due to past psychological memories of pleasure and pain is very strong, and it takes a lot of presence within to defuse it in time and act prudently than rashly. Meditation is that which increases the presence within.

True mind management is really mindfulness in every aspect of life. And wow is it hard. It`s relatively easy on day one, when you filter out and recognise things that the mind or your character is ok dealing with, the problem comes with the things you like, or to which you are addicted, or after you have been doing this for a few days (hours sometimes, even minutes) and the ego kicks back strongly.
Like any aspect of self improvement, you need to have some accountability and discipline to make it work.
Excellent practice though.

Well stated Peteyzen. Yeah, accountability is the name of the game, and without accountability it is hard to register progress. Regular and precise auditing or review creates accountability. What can be measured can be improved.

I have an acronym called A4 for this purpose which I read in an article on self-improvement. It goes as Awareness-Action-Accountability-Auditing.

Awareness stands here for being aware of a negative habit or trait one wishes to change.

Action is an action plan you create to change the trait or habit, with timelines and targets.

Accountability is ensuring that the action plan is implemented precisely. This ensures correctives and better planning if needed.

Auditing is checking out whether the results are attained, plans implemented, any details overlooked and so on, and ensuring precision in work.

Hope this acronym A4 comes useful to people here.
