Advice to myself during a Mood Swing.

Now that the sun is setting
And the rivers are darkening
You must cradle the book
Of verse
you have created
To your chest

Keep it low
And sit behind
These stone walls
Of absence

Allow it
Allow the iron
Sides of her bough
To slip along
the great
Gantries
Of an engineering
Marvel
A Canal that joins
Two great oceans

Drawn forward
By the slow motion of
Nothingness
You will reach the
Openness again
Peep onto the horizons
Of the seas
Round the long corner
Of slow expectancy
Deliver your wares
To foreign shores
Smile once more

The title certainly captured my attention!

I really like this, it is extremely relatable. You gave yourself some good advice. I particularly enjoyed the last four lines.

My own inner critic is often compassionate/ soothing and helpful but many times is a massive pain in the backside.

Thank you for reading and commenting. The poem was prompted by my other half who said your energy is on the downturn now, the down cycle if you will. So yes it seems more obvious to her that I am fluctuating between cycles ..something i would have never noticed in a million years. So instead of sitting down and writing about a big ship going down a Canal, i would be up in arms and fighting my moods ? Non acceptance perhaps, and judgementalism or the inner critic up and at it as you say and not in a good.
way. The title, yes ode to the inner critic !!!! lol Anyways thanks once more !

              I can relate my friend.

I have been pushing it as for work
            which should not matter
               but as you get older
                   it does matter.
