It actually means something else and what was said above.

Was wondering about teaching if I may ask others, is this what teachers teach or is there disagreement with what teachers teach?

Added: Btw, it is the mind that is also slapped (and feels) which I think is missed.

i tend to agree. To me, asking someone to slap you on the other cheek is like saying 'I love you so much I will let you hurt me still furhter'. As opposed to having a desire for revenge...

Yet some people use these teachings to repress feelings that are there.

Surely this could not be the intent?

That's why I see no merit in arguing anything. I share my ideas, but I ask nobody to accept them, as for them the best way to form their beliefs is to tap their own inner sources of knowledge.

Unfortunately, most people borrow their ideas from others, who may or may not know what they're talking about. The number of followers has no correlation to the validity of a teacher, or dogma' ideas.

Bottom line of the subject discussed here, is that thoughts and emotions are extremely important, actions much less. Positive actions accompanied by negative emotions and thought will always yield situations that will cause more negative emotions and thoughts.

Kind of affronting that you think that causing pain is OK as long as you are not feeling negative. Psychopaths may even feel pleasure. Surely a spiritually inclined teaching is deeper and truer (probably more along the lines of what lemex says)

Yes, I concur. Responding but from compassion, and one, not two, as you say it is the highest of teachings.

To me this teaching is about displaying superiority. Remember that this is an instruction given to the saints, who were living a pious life, free from evil and ignorance.

If you go to a gymn where they teach martial arts, the instructor will tell you not to fight in the streets, because the training will give you an unfair advantage over common people. So, if a fighter trusts his muscles and skills enough not to use them against other people, how much stronger is the blessed elect living under the law of heaven?

To turn the other cheek means to be incorruptible and prepared for the attack of the enemy, because the righteous one is invincible. One can only turn the other cheek if he is strong enough, otherwise he's down on the ground after the first strike.

Going back in time a bit we find Socrates giving a similar advice:

One who is injured ought not to return the injury, for on no account can it be right to do an injustice; and it is not right to return an injury, or to do evil to any man, however much we have suffered from him.

And back in Ancient Egypt they said:

Don’t start a quarrel with a
Hot-mouthed man,
Nor needle him with words,
Pause before a foe, bend before an attacker.
Sleep on it before speaking.
A storm that bursts like fire through straw,
Such is the heated man in his hour.

I think the thing is to not hate your enemy or those whom do you unrighteously. The hate will destroy you as it is a self-destructive energy/emotion. So yeah, turn the other cheek . Amen

I think too that that was the point.
