It talks of the Messiah - there is no mention of Jesus though.

In Jesus's day he was the only Rabbi to raise the dead, heal the blind, walk on the water. The Rabbis new this. Why didn't they see only a Messiah could do this? Curious-One

Look into Elijah and Eliseus.
Elijah was reincarnated into John the Baptist and was Jesus guru. Eliseus was Jesus in his past life in the Old Testament.

So the tales tell - truth is often not the same as someone's account of events.

They never saw him do it - they just heard tales about these alleged events after Jesus had died.

'The Rabbi's' were the Pharisees, they were the religious leaders, and Jesus spoke against them directly, eg. Matt 23-16 "You are in for trouble! You are supposed to lead others, but you are blind" - check out Matthew 23 for a full list . He also consistently reinterpreted the Law in ways that the Pharisees couldn't accept, eg. healing on the Sabbath, by Law a day that is meant to be absolute rest. So despite the amazing things that Jesus was doing, he was challenging accepted religious authority in all sorts of ways, and those authorities in general were not able to overcome their own ego and self interest to see that someone far greater than their way was amongst them.

So you understand, in the way that you are using the term "rabbi" there were no rabbis in the time of Jesus.

The Pharisees receive a bum rap in Christian scripture.
Furthermore, to refer to the Pharisees as the religious authorities of Jesus' time is to misunderstand the nature of 1st century Judaism.

Recognizing the messiah isn't about signs & wonders .. the New Testament has words to say about those who seek after signs & wonders.
