Simply learn to relax your throat, your throat chakra needs to open more to allow all this prana culminating in the heart and the head to flow naturally out from the crown.

There is no magic way to open the throat chakra,
But relaxing the muscles around the throat when doing this Kundalini cobra asana will accelerate this process. Can be done before and after taking the sitting position.

I do respect affirmations of those who differ or who practice different techniques but as of my experience, the Divine Mother or kundalini optimises energisation for us automatically, wherein our focus should be simply to receive the energy, without offering resistance.
I never found posture to be relevant but then again it’s whatever works for the each of us.

Just to update on this, I've done a few hour-long sittings over the past week or two, but they've been sort of dotted around, I've largely just been playing by ear rather than trying to stick to a rigid schedule (as I say, I tried that in the past and just ended up feeling fried, I don't think my nervous system could handle it). At the moment I'm going to ease off a little, I can just feel that it would be counter-productive to push myself too hard at this stage; I feel like the longer sittings have been beneficial, though, in helping to dissolve energetic blockages, I've been noticing quite a lot of activity in my root chakra in the past few days, and lots of pressure in my heart and head (I've been feeling that for a while now, but it feels heightened at the moment). So I feel like I've just got to let the energy integrate for the time being - I'll still meditate, but 20-30 minutes per sitting feels sufficient at the moment.

I have indeed found this to be the case, I persevered with the half-lotus position and it did get easier in time. I found that just dropping attention into my legs and feet when I was feeling discomfort was helpful, that helped the energy flow to those parts (I think this may also have contributed to the activity I've been feeling in my root chakra, I believe that energy centre governs the lower extremities).

As for gaining more flexibility...... try using a squat position.
