The forgoing exchange reminds me of something I read long ago:

Come back, come back, oh time in your flight
That I may retract the words, I spoke last night

So let’s get back then, to the topic of the thread ~ mixed message on happiness

Do objects of desire, when attained, result in happiness?
The objects could be material or intellectual even …

A temporary high perhaps, I’d say and then gone with the wind - poof!

Of course, the line of inquiry recognises an object, an object of desire. Object requires a subject and desire mirrors aversion, as in the opposite polarity. So why not simply attempt to dissolve all these polarities? Subject (identity) disappears, the object is seen as a flicker in space, desire and pain viewed as waves of the ocean … what remains but awareness self-aware?

Let’s dwell therein.

I would like to ask ReturningMoon if there is a specific reason she has posed this particular question other than she feels there are mixed messages about happiness . I know she says that she has experienced happiness with certain things that maybe are causing confusion , and seems keen to know what the definition is from a spiritual perspective.
It's making me wonder if perhaps she is feeling guilty for some reason for experiencing happiness from certain things? I hope this is not the case.

To me the ultimate happiness would be to clear the dirt of my window and look clearly at the world, with wonder and awe.

That's lovely Cosmic.
( In a sense we did this through the pandemic when the smog and the skies cleared and we saw the empty streets filled with all the wild animals. This was the beauty that shone through what was a terrible time and seeing all of that did actually make me feel very happy)

Hii AB,

Yes very true, however I meant it metaphorically (should’ve said so…). Like clearing that part of me from seeing the beauty of the world

Oh , I knew what you meant Cos !! I was was putting my own personal spin on it. I know that you work very hard on yourself to achieve all your goals , which is to be greatly admired .

LOL.... I notice that you did not protest that I am not silly. SOOOOO funny !! And actually you are correct with it helping to keep us alive .
Laughter enhances our intake of oxygen - rich air , and it stimulates our heart , lungs, and muscles . It also increases the endorphins that our brain releases .
All of this is especially crucial for me with my lung conditions and actually does help my breathing.
So , Laughter really IS the best medicine . It promotes well -being and HAPPINESS !!!!!

Ok, back on the topic after a bit of off topic things cleaned up.
Rem, when you have a 'problem' better to say it in a pm, as it says in the Rules.
And as we know, it derails the entire thread...not fair to the original poster or the Forum as a whole. Thanks.
