My idea is, just start going along a path of truth, be honest, discern for yourself and make sure everything is self-determined. As they say, if you take care of this moment the rest takes care of itself. When you walk in rough terrain, only this step keeps you on track or makes you fall over. You aren't thinking about the last steps or the next ones because this one really counts. You don't want to step on the wrong path and go down that road, so being discerning it a good idea.

We'll find when we do that the guru thing will seem trivial in comparison, but ironically, staying the path of truth leads you to encounter teachers along that way. Or, you might be a bit anti-social and off limits for that kind relation. Or you simply might not want it. On the whole though, the majority of people who present as gurus are not actually trustworthy, and one has to be careful where they place trust and choose to take refuge.

Just gotta be truthful inside and outwardly and see what stems from there

Just gotta understand people are people, no matter how fancy they talk, how knowledgeable they seem, or how serene they look or behave. We all have our triggers, and a ''guru'' will have his ((usually a male anyway)) triggers as well. It is always a matter of finding things out, eventually you discover someone's trigger points and that's when you realize ''aah they are people with feelings... with anger, with sadness, with pettiness''. There is just no human alive in perpetual peace and free of all 'ego' reaction indefinitely. But we may do a practice regularly and create an environment that is fruitful to expand an experience, but this is crafted carefully. However, none of it means we got no ego or have 'transcended' our human nature, we have just become more knowledgeable on how to craft the right environment to generate a desirable state. Why do monks and guru's mostly exist in certain places of serenity but not on a volcanic crater or a gangbanging neighbourhood? Well there's your answer.

Through my awakening, i always believed in god, but I just struggled to follow religion, for me spirituality was separate and with freedom, with no rules to follow but my own intuition, it made it possible to find myself without restrictions and rules.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru
