This evening as on most Sunday evenings, in Spiritualist churches far and wide across the UK, visiting or house mediums will be found conducting the Divine Service for the congregation.

It consists of a simple prayer, an address and often includes a demonstration of evidential mediumship to accompany the simple message of survival beyond death.

A medium who takes such a service will be experienced and knowledgeable with a strong connection to the spirit.

Name tags apparently does mean a lot to some people. For example, how many times have I been told I am not a Spiritualist nor a Medium?

And why does that matter? Does it mean that what I write has no 'meaning'? But for some, such talk definetly has meaning and that is why it is used so often.

I was talking yesterday to a medium who's development was a long and difficult one, sometimes a battle to understand what was happening and where it was leading.

Perhaps that's not uncommon and perhaps personal struggle is a factor in the lives of many mediums?

I think the greatest obstacle a person has to overcome is the various discouragements. From what I have seen, it is a hard road lined with a lot of brow beaters.

No matter how many words are written here on this website or elsewhere, the path a potential medium walks is unlikely to be much impacted by what's said.

Additionally the chance of a potential medium fetching up on this obscure website frequented by a tiny number of people is comparatively small. If anything such individuals are more likely to be seen on the social media where speciality pages proliferate - I've been joining them recently to see what they offer seekers.

Those who are truly developing towards eventual effective mediumship are most likely doing it away from this strange place, quite likely unaware that it even exists. Forum-based websites have been losing the popularity they once enjoyed up to a decade or more ago. No the likely impact on the development of any potential medium is exceedingly small.

We flatter ourselves if we believe we have any significant impact.

If that is true, why then during and shortly after 1848, a plethora of Mediums came into existence 'over night'?
