Wish I could sit on the fence with this one: you live a somber life just to die painfully???
It’s 24 hours it takes to die- give or take…
Mine are painful so I don’t know how I endured but surly it endured me..
It’s a ride you can’t get off!! Once you’re in a body you’re in a pain body??

I've done a lot of research about the In-between Place.
Not Heaven ---but a wonderful place we hang out in.
(Off topic: and was taken there one time, so really get it!)
This is what I gather: we spend time over there learning a lot!
Then, a time comes when we can be sent back...we have a lot to say about how and where and in what conditions. :)
Refer to Chico Xavier's movie, 'The Astral City: A Spiritual Journey'...it sums it up nicely rather than
going to 5 books that say the same thing.

Would I reincarnate again? Yes if I would if I felt it would be beneficial for me or for someone else I am/was involved with. I might not, though, if I didn't.
The same principle I expect I used when I last returned home.

But you as your higher self, your soul, will know it needs it. There is serious evolution here for it and for God.

I do wonder if we have a choice as I understand coming into this life I so "did not want to come in" I have seen the events unfold pre me. It was very early on with my Mom having me. She had her lung collapse and could have lost me. She had to have major surgery for it. I have been told I tried to take her out.
Then I was an emergency C Section birth on the day of the worst storm Vancouver has ever had. Here again it was touch and go for a time. Yet in I came. Now my Mother and I have never bonded as I never wanted to be here.
I have been told that I choose my father and my mother was just the tool there to come in through. I get that too I have no regrets, but I too had no choice in the matter it would seem. You're coming in that is that I was told.

You make decisions about reincarnation when you are in the spiritual realm not on Earth. Once in the spiritual realm, you see and know the big picture, and you will discuss your progress with your guides. You cannot make such decisions with the limited knowledge you have in your present conscious state. Most souls cannot remember why they chose their present lives let alone start planning for their next.
