When I was faced with imminent death, I realized I know nothing and beliefs are superficial.

That's actually how I lost my religion all those years ago.

@ posts 31, 32 ~ I’d like to share something about death, based on experience. In a continuum of walking meditation, one day, the vital life force was suddenly sucked out my body and I began to fall. Then, it was instantly restored, offering the clear knowing that we are being breathed by God’s breath. This knowing was reinforced in a oneness state where I became the breath itself, indwelling all forms.

Religion and belief, being in lower mind is another matter but I’d say direct experiences, if and as offered, infuses a deep doubt free knowing, direct wisdom, if you will.

Spiritual life is not easy or rewarding at all.......hedonism is much better........but once you're living a spiritual life, you really can't go back........I was never deeply religious at all, but now that I'm living this kind of life, I know I couldn't adhere to any religion........my mom really messed up by trying to make me a religious person, I think it had the opposite effect........I used to drink alcohol every day, I don't do that anymore but I wish I did.........my future looks bleak, I can't imagine things getting better.........losing your mind/your beliefs doesn't happen all at once, it might seem to happen all at once but it's actually a gradual process that can (for some people) culminate in a traumatic breaking point, otherwise known as a nervous breakdown or mental breakdown........spiritual people call this a "spiritual awakening".........well I wouldn't call it that, it's probably better called a "satori", but from what I've gathered from my own experience as well as reading about the experiences of others, this "satori" can (potentially) have a profoundly negative impact on a person's psyche, I know that happened to me........

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

The Administration has asked to quote only 2-3 sentences when quoting members or anything else.
You can reference the Post # or give links. Thanks.

Hedonism is actually very limited. Whatever pleasures we find are short-lived, and we then have to repeat the process to try to recreate the pleasure.

Spiritual life is very simple and very rewarding. The rewards include acceptance and contentment. We recognise that our physical life is brief and we don't take it so seriously. We accept our own limitations and we do not take ourselves so seriously. We are content with what we have and we no longer strive for whatever we don't have in a futile search for fulfilment.

The difficulty is in making the transition from hedonism to spirituality. It is like a battle between Soul and personality. We are pulled in both directions and we fluctuate between spiritual aspiration and personality desire. We have a foot in both worlds but we are established in neither.

As you say, once we have begun this journey we cannot go back. Occasionally we may try but the limitations of our old way of living quickly become apparent. But once we are established in the spiritual life then we find true peace and contentment.

Peace
