I have this kind of relationship with my two cats also, sesheta.
Of course, animals don't think in words as we do, but amazingly our own deeper mind translates their messages to us.

I absolutely believe cats and humans can communicate. Through vocal interaction, physical cues and telepathically. I find I can connect with some cats more than others - I have had 2 cats in my life at the most critical times that I truly believe were my soulmates.

For some reason we have had an extremely close bond since the day he showed up on my doorstep (literally!) His name is T.C. (short form for "the cat", lolol!)
Anyway....not only can I speak to him, I can often somehow "hear" him in my mind, as well! Not as a literal human voice, but I always know that it's him, and I can understand the communication as easily as I would understand another human speaking to me in the same room.

I believe it, Shesheta, because my dog, Mandi, was the same way - and she visited my mother and I several months after her death around 2:00 am in the morning. Yep, animals definitely have souls! !!

Is it even possible, or am I just thinking like a crazy cat lady? Any insight or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Don't try to figure this out with your mind. Instead try going with the energy around you and your cat while conversing. Even so when not vocally conversing.
You'll begin to pick up subtlties that give you information on some level and make sure you make a pointed effort to contribute gratitude to your cat while in the space. :) Telepathy.

Ugh this is a bit awkward, Georgina. But I think you might just be a crazy cat lady....
Ok fine I'm just kidding. You can totally communicate with your pet, which they use telepathy to communicate with us. If you get a feeling or a sense for what she wants when she meows at you, don't discard it because your feeling is most likely accurate. Sometimes they just want to see if you're listening, but most often they want something from you. There are several methods you can try to make contact with your pet but like everything you're learning it takes some practice. However if you want to know more about animals and our communication with them I will recommend this: "Amusing to Proud: My Communication With Animals" by Suzanne Ward. I will gladly lend this book to you. It has opened my senses to a lot about our furry friends, and it is interesting, an easy read, and helpful if you want to learn to communicate. In fact, if you ever have an interest you want to read about, I have a collection of books which cover topics relating to just about everything here and all for free and I will gladly help you out.
Or Georgina, I could just be wrong and all your cat wants is some toe action and nothing more
