All creatures great and small
'Love of all creatures is also love of God, for whoever loves the One God loves all the works that He has made. When one loves God, it is impossible not to love His creatures.
The opposite is also true. If one hates the creatures, it is impossible to love God who created them

Very well said knightofalbion. To open ones heart and fill it with love , is opening your heart to all living things and to God who has created them.

This is so true. Once I didn't believe in God, but I did believe in love, and gave every little creature, even worms and spindly little spiders my care and attention, moving them so I wouldn't hurt them, or so they wouldn't get vacuumed up. etc. It just felt right.

It felt right because it is right.
Good for you.

Something lovely just happened....
As I was thinking about worms and spindly-spiders with kind memories...
The insect kingdom gave me a gift!
I felt a tickling on my hand as I sat at my laptop, and looked....there was the most beautiful beetle crawling along my thumb.
Shield-shaped, coloured gorgeous grass-green with metallic gold cross-stripes. A truly handsome chap!
I talked to him for a minute, then let him go outside into the night.

All creatures great and small
To be honest,
I can't say I love all creatures great and small, only most of them
especially lovely puppies.
But I can't say the same with spiders or cockroaches,
even sharks which I think the world is better off without especially when I see people who were a victim of a simple bite.

I once slept with cockroaches. (Well...haha...) They were rustling about as I slept on the floor of a very run-down flat which belonged to a student pal of mine way back when. I was concerned they might walk in my hair so I got up, lit a candle, and more or less asked them not to. I didn't find them disgusting. I watched them in the night. After a while I felt peaceful even though they were still there, and went back to sleep. They were gone in the morning.
I found the early morning radio DJ more disturbing than the roaches.
As for shark bites...I agree, that sort of thing is hard to love when it happens. But maybe the ones who go where the sharks are should stay out of the hunter's water/territory?
I have a thing about pups too I always did. I melt
