You can't tell, sadly. I shutdown my computer when not in use. I use that blue painters tape to keep glue from my lens when I need it. Here is a one of the reports about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35bphhQPUHw

Until we don't...  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a rabble-rouser (does that hint that I'm old) but I would hope that our privacy reclamation will be peaceful, if it ever happens. Just waiting for 1984 to be banned or quietly removed from the shelves, Oh wait, that book was called Fahrenheit-451, wasn't it? hmm, time travelers, maybe...  Starting to sound a bit crazy, but like Robin Williams used to say, "it's good to stay a little foot-loose-bozo". 
By the way, there is 1 surveillance camera for every 4 people in London....

Unplug it when not in use... Special on 60 Minutes last night about our info being sold was great. They said that all the folks that downloaded "Angry Birds" unknowingly granted permission to access their personal data. Nothing is free... it is just trying to spy on us.

 I have a piece of duct tape over the camera on my mini laptop... 
that'll stop em'...
seriously, the very thought of potentially being spied on is pretty scary... |

Mine is a square piece of electrical tape. It's black, so it doesn't stick out and blends in with the black cpu frame which is nice.
