Indian President inaugurates Brahmakumaris National Convention on Women empowerment

Indian president Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the National Convention on Empowerment of women for social transformation, organised by the Prajapita Brahmakumaris, by lighting the candles in Brahmakumari Headquarters at Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India on December 6, 2019.


The Prajapita Brahmakumaris worship the monotheistic God as an incorporeal point of light.

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris holds the unique distinction of being the world's only spiritual organization led, administered and taught by women and they have centers all over the world in almost every country teaching 7 day courses free of cost , which includes their religious philosophy and meditation techniques. One of the themes of the Brahmakumaris is the empowerment of women all over the world as spiritual leaders and teachers.

They have received seven UN Peace Messenger Awards for their services around the world in the interests of global peace and harmony.

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris have expressed its commitment to working with the UN on empowerment of women and girls throughout the world, through its representatives in the UN, Sister Mohini Panjabi and Sister Jayanti Kirpalani.

They have emphasized their opposition to child marriage, which inhibits girls education and health, and compromises the full potential of girls to contribute to the world. They have also voiced the need for the elimination of all harmful practices such as female genital mutilation, forced marriages and so on.

The BKWSU wholeheartedly endorses the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on September 25, 2015. In particular, we reaffirm our support for Goal 5: "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls"; Target 5.3: "Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage, and female genital mutilation". Many international agreements already outlaw child marriage, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women.

A central theme of the Brahma Kumaris is that in order for change to occur in the outer world, there has to be a concurrent transformation of the inner awareness that is predicated upon the dignity and worth of all people. According to Gayatri Naraine, Brahma Kumaris representative to the UN in New York, USA: "This spiritual trajectory is the vital force that influences whether we move towards a socially, ecologically and spiritually satisfying future or whether we move into further violence, poverty and environmental degradation."

The BKWSU upholds spiritual principles that nourish the inner world of self-respect, building a foundation of dignity for ourselves, our families and our society. The UN Sustainable Development goals related to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls are consistent with our beliefs and practices, and we look forward to supporting these goals in our centres worldwide.

Prajapita Brahmakumaris in Goa, India assist civil adminstration during Covid lockdown chaos

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris rose to the occasion assisting the civil administration in Goa during the covid crisis by distributing immunity boosting Ayurvedic tea among policemen on duty as well as assisting office of the North Goa collector in packaging essential items for supply to the needy.

When the state government appealed for assistance during lockdown period from March 31 to May 3, the Prajapita Brahmakumaris unit in Goa responded enthusiastically.


“The sisters of Brahma Kumaris sewed masks in keeping with the medically approved design and distributed them at the district collector's office and other government officers, said Shobha Behenji, Goa Zone director, Brahmakumaris.


This is a great example of how spiritual institutions can work in tandem with state governments to plug the gaps in manpower or resources or facilities during times of humanitarian crises.

The Prajapita Brahmakumaris in Pound Lane, Willesden, London, hosted an online event and steered by Brent students for studying the effects of the coronavirus epidemic on their peers and fellow students, on Nov 11, 2020.

The event is hosted by Sister Jayanti, European Director of Brahma Kumaris and involves a panel discussion, chaired by Cllr Ketan Sheth, chair of Brent Council’s community and wellbeing scrutiny committee.

Joining them are 11-year-old Dhruti Patel from Preston Park Primary School, Dillon Donnelly Trimble, a 15-year-old pupil at Harlesden’s Newman Catholic College, Tonna Ezeajughi, 16-year-old chair of Brent Youth Parliament, and Rithvik Gudlavalleti, a student at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University.

Cllr Sheth said: “While young people are presumed, largely, to have avoided the worst health impacts of the coronavirus, the pandemic has affected them severely in many different ways.”

Narendra Modi delivered the Keynote address at the national launch ceremony of `Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav se Swarnim Bharat Ke Ore` on Thursday at 10:30 am via video conferencing, informed the Prime Minister`s Office on Wednesday.
