I suspect when people talk about reincarnation they don't think they fully relate to the Eastern beliefs on the subject. ....... And then there is reincarnation into a mineral, mountain, plant, etc. which appears to be a typical taboo subject in the West.
It's understandable that folk won't necessarily subscribe to eastern beliefs when they live in the west.....

As for reincarnation into inanimate or plant life we need to move away from the thread topic of Spiritualism's history to consider others' ideas on that approach. I'm greatly influenced by a certain guide's teachings which were channeled by author and medium Julie Gale but that's a discussion best held in its own thread.

Reincarnation was not part of Modern Day Spiritualism. Reincarnation appears to have become part of some Modern Day Spiritualism as a result of Spiritism coming on the scene. It seems that is was the Spiritists that brought forth the idea of reincarnation to some of the Spiritualists.

Are you familiar with Animism and Spiritualism?

If you go to predominate Buddhist countries, something that people have noted with Eastern Buddhism is how much Animism permeates that 'Buddhist' religion.

But that is exactly what has happened in many of the Spiritualist Churches. Many of those Churches teach Reincarnation and other Eastern beliefs such as Auras and Chakras.

Much more to the point, do Spiritualists see Swedenborg as the father of Spiritualism? I look forward to your further comment. blessings

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a devoted Spiritualist, concluded the discussion of Emmanuel Swedenborg in his "History of Spiritualist" with these words: "In spite of all his theological symbolism, his name must live eternally as the first of all modern men who has given a description of the process of death, and of the world beyond, which is not founded upon the vague ecstatic and impossible visions of the old Churches, but which actually corresponds with the descriptions which we ourselves obtain from those who endeavour to convey back to us some clear idea of their new existence."

Why would Sir Arthur Conan Doyle include Emmanuel Swedenborg if he did not think he was part of the history of Spiritualism?

In your opinion, what did Spiritualism look like before the Fox Sisters and Mother of 1848? From what I have 'seen', it seems that a considerable number of Spiritualist do not seem to even acknowledge the Fox Sisters and their Mother. I hope I am wrong on that later thought.

The latest research by Paul Gaunt, historian and SNU archivist, can be found here: https://www.snu.org.uk/the-pioneer-journal

Highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of the religion, philosophy and movement of Spiritualism.
