If you watch this little youtube by Richard Rohr you will see what I believe, he hits it for me, right on. And he talks about Thomas Merton too, it's a way of being/seeing mystically as a Christian.

Well, I have one and we get along just fine and I see Christ in me, when I was young I wished I could be just like Jesus, I wanted to be a priest..
Jesus is just all right with me.
