I'd like to breed plants hardy to the air, water, and soil conditions in my area. This includes very wet cool springs, hot dry fire-prone summers, and sooty, rusty, rocky clay soil. And these gardens aren't just edible and medicinal, but also defensive. Several sharp, spiny, thorny shrubs and vines, hosting pesticide-resistant bees, wasps, and ants, among the peaches and onions. To deter those nosy neighbors across the ditch.

I'm growing a lot of onions, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, basil, and bananas right now. Also got corn, beans, squash, mulberry, blackberry, and those aforementioned peaches. I'll be planting sunflowers, castor, canna, melons, more beans, and more corn either today or tomorrow. I tend to start planting quite early and end planting quite late, experimenting with different growing conditions and whatnot.

Wow! You have a big garden! Do you mean bananas, the fruit? That would be so amazing!

Ha! Defensive plants,... never thought of that! LOL!

Your garden sound beautiful.

Linen, blessings to you on your surgery.

I bought some succulents today for a container display on the deck. I haven't gotten around to transplanting them yet. If the clouds have their way, we'll have rain so won't be able to do anything outside. It's okay to leave them in their pots for now.

Reminds me of me when I was younger. I loved being in my garden. The smell of the warm dirt and all the love from my garden plants.

Thank you Chrysalis.

Thank you Chrysalis.

And the plants do indeed love! :) They're so forgiving and understanding, even the ones we pluck up and toss aside as "weeds" we don't want. I try to have a place for everyone though.

Not as big as you think! Just very compact, although this yard and house do feel huge after living in apartments for the past 10 years. And yes, bananas the fruit! Small seedy bananas though. I don't mind, growing bananas from seed would be great. Right now, we bring the corms inside every winter, along with the other bulbs and tubers. I'd like to breed frost-hardy bananas.

We just bought some hog fence in hopes of protecting the tomatoes and giving them a place to climb up! Yay!
