Your thread..... on the distortion of history is a good one.

Where I live, I like to go to Tombstone, Arizona. It is the place of the historical gunfight at the 'O.K. Coral', Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday and nearby, in viewing distance, is Cochise's Stronghold..... or at least what old records claim. Intermingle in this was Geronimo who passed thru the area several times...... sometimes followed by the USA Army.

When I go there, I always go to one of the famous buildings and listen to them tell the 'history' of what went on there. I took note that almost every time I went there, the number of Saloons on the street in 1881 grew substantially along with the number of people who died in that building as a result of gunfights. I surely can not leave out the number of bullet holes in the building also increased over time.

That is when I started looking at history and began to look at how 'history' changes. The 'real' history in many cases never disappears but is rarely looked at.

Years back, I spent some time talking to a Historian Professor. He was surprised of my understanding of certain histories.

When it comes to history,
the funniest one I came across is where I live, they promote and celebrate one particular day as the day the Government came into existence. But if you visit the main Government office, they have a picture frame mounted on the wall proclaiming the date the Government came into existence. The difference between both accounts is over one century!
