Dark Skies

The mini-series Dark Skies was recently released as a dvd, and never having seen it here in Australia, I promptly bought it. Oh my. I was expecting something more along the lines of Taken, which I thought was nothing short of brilliant. I was thoroughly enjoying it when they brought in Betty and Barney (although they did play a little fast and loose with the truth when Barney was talking about seeing creatures in the windows of the craft - something he didn't know until a few years later when he underwent hypnosis) but at the 45 minute mark of the first episode I reached for the remote and screamed ENOUGH!!! Creepy crawly things vomiting themselves out of a dead man's mouth, green slime on the floor - why oh why do they DO it? Is it because that's what most people want, or believe? Or is it just another disinformation technique. (Give them 70% fact and they'll believe the other 30%)

So, I tossed it, and put Taken back in the dvd player for the 3rd time in 3 years, and breathed a big sigh of relief. Every time I watch it, I find subtle new references - many of them inconsequential, but spot on. For instance, I've been reading Jim Marrs book Alien Agenda, and last night read a reference to a mass sighting that was initially explained away as street lights reflecting off geese - until it was discovered that it was the wrong time of year for geese, so it was quickly changed to Plovers. Tonight in Taken a reference was made to - yep, "street lights reflecting off plovers!" There was also a brief reference to "the only thing we've got from them so far is a way to hold my pants up" as another military man played with a piece of velcro. (Colonel Corso's book mentions that velcro was discovered and developed through back engineering of a crashed craft.)

So, I'm interested to know how many of you saw Taken, how many of you saw Dark Skies, and what you thought of them.
