It's so frustrating when we know this, and yet continue to seek satisfaction from things that have little-to-no capacity to provide any meaningful satisfaction.
I don't recall exactly how it goes, but there was a poem where Kabir calls us liars, anyone who would turn to God with words like, "You are the most beautiful, most adorable and worthy of worship" and then, in the next breath, focus all concerns on the world.
But then, there are also those who believe our worldly desires are God's own desires, expressed through us.
Also, it's not like suppressing would help anything. I'm hoping that, by being more mindful of desires and thinking it through instead of just reacting, it might help develop better discrimination, but it's so easy for the mind to get hung up on daft things.
