I grew up "in the land of Herkimer Diamonds". One place we lived, if you stood still very quiet outside, you might hear the water running beneath you.

As a boy, I loved playing in the water, flinging Herkimer Diamonds and exploring.

Mohawk Indians had a special affinity for them. The Mohawks seemed to me, to be very smart. They could go up and down the Hudson River without doing any 'real' rowing. They realized they could get a 'free ride' up the River when the tide came in.
