Is life personal

I find it hard to understand a discrepancy, as I see it, so I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

Some lines of thought state that life is not personal, it just happens, and once we are aware of the consciousness/witness that we truly are, we recognise this naturally and don't label things good or bad or attach any meaning whatsoever.

Then there are other lines of thought which seem to apply that life is inherently personal, that things happen FOR our growth, and we can learn from everything that happens. Also, synchronicities happen to point us to the right road. Everything here implies that we chose a particular path at least to some extent. And then there's the understanding that our consciousness/soul/witness/whatever survives death.

Can both be true? Can life be personal AND impersonal? Is there a personal meaning or no meaning at all? Does it depend on where one is at?

When I consider my nightly dreams, there are obviously deeply personal to me, with lots of rich symbolism and meaning.

Ram Das used to say that we are each working out karma until we awaken, so is life personal until it is no longer personal?

IMO,you make choices that you wish to fulfil and if you have any karma to be resolved, you may plan a way to resolve it.Nobody judges you, it's your decision on what to resolve.
Some incarnate for a specific purpose which is personal to them too.
When we incarnate, we forget. The veil is pulled over us to help with our learning etc.
In my experience, situations arise which steer you down the right route in your lifetime including any difficulties which you wish to overcome and how you act to resolve those difficulties.
Your life is roughly planned and you always have a guide or guides to watch over you. During your lifetime on earth, all is forgotten but all the main things were planned before you incarnate. As we forget now have free will to see how we get on.............My thought's anyway.

YES! And I've said it many times, Yes, this whole 'thing' is personal and impersonal!
It's the great, fascinating Paradox!!
The mind does not like paradoxes. Not at all.

Ram Das, aw, bless his heart - I agree with him...good catch - the underlined.
Don't know if you have ever read 'The Impersonal Life'.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Life is how you think it is. If you think it is personal, then it is personal. My life is personal. And life appears to be personal to all I interact wih in any way, no matter how they pose as we interact. This is my personal response to you, who I see as a real person and not an illusion!
