re post #26
The fact is though that a lot of people buy into your original statement: things are written in stone, fate/destiny rules all and there is never a choice. Personally I don't find it very productive to keep propagating that point of view...
Are some things not written in stone? Is it not written in stone that one day, your time, like mine on earth will be up and that will be it? Poof! Until the next life. Some, could say that is ones destiny once they are born, to die.
You go to the store tomorrow and you meet the love of your life there. Is that destiny that brought you two together? Did you have a choice to go to the store at all? Were you nudged into it without even realizing it? Did you have random hunger pangs the night before eating more than normal just so you could end up the store the next day.
I did also say, for the rest fate comes into play, and we have more leeway with that. Which is where some of our choices come into play. We can choose to go, no thank you to the love of our life that came along and tell them, we're already happily married. Or, we can go, what's one little affair gonna do?
Some may argue, well, why did destiny put us together if we were already with other people? I also never said destiny was a final destination with things. I just said that somethings are meant to happen regardless of what we do. Such as meeting someone, or even being in the right place at the right time. What we do with it all, can be up to us. Or perhaps it's not and we truly have no say.
I do know, however, from experience with others. We need the illusion of freewill. We need to know we have the ability to shape our lives and our futures. Without it, we may not find purpose, drive, or desire, or have a o drum attitude of why bother? Nothing matters anyways it will happen regardless.

again, if you read what I said I did NOT say nothing was written in stone. I said that some things aren't though... the illusion we fall under is that because some things are written in stone that means all of them are.
