‘If a person is struck by an arrow, is it painful? If the person is struck by a second arrow, is it even more painful?’

He then went on to explain,

‘In life, we can’t always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. This second arrow is optional.’

The supervisor admonishing you to not converse was the first arrow and your anger was the second arrow.

Mindfulness meditation is a great tool for overcoming that reactivity. With enough diligence and practice the very first thought seeds of that anger can be recognized and nipped in the bud before snowballing into a runaway thought train leading to an emotional reaction.

All emotions are a gift,

Just like "gifts" some people fall into the trap in believing gifts are a curse.
When someone chooses to accept a curse instead of beauty and wonders that the gifts hold. Only then will such gifts become downfall's and tainted.

Anger is no exception

1. Can dissolve fear
2. Can give you the encouragement for obsessing enough on your goal. which leads to more and more intense practice accelerating the process

Anger is an emotional response to our perceptions of 'external' reality - as is every other emotion. It's an energy and in itself energy is benign - it's neither positive or negative until we define it as such, it's not a sword until we wield it.

Like all emotional responses it comes from somewhere deep within and it has much to tell us about our own internal realities, but that involves going to the places where angels fear to tread. Emotions don't arise out of nowhere, they arise from the darkness.

This treats the 'symptoms' and not the root cause of emotions and anger in particular since it's often the most volatile. Once the root cause is 'cured' mindfulness comes of its own accord because there is nothing for the anger to arise from, and so it doesn't 'get in the way'.
