Exclamation Higher Powers?

I am struggling with the idea of believing in a God, specifically Jesus Christ. My entire family is Catholic and they despise me not committing to their religion. Truth is, I believe in a higher power, but I don't know what it is. Is that what a faith is? Should I not worry about putting a name to my belief? I'm kinda lost here. I know its there, I think my issue is more of using language to "name" this higher being. I know that shouldn't matter because what I feel is beyond words and concepts.

I been in your place for years! Your absolutely correct on people have a need to label things. Higher powers do exist and they are beyond words and labels. My best advice to you is to follow your heart and nothing else! Have faith in yourself. If you don't have that, faith is only a word. In my case I gave up trying to name my beliefs. True spiritual beliefs become so very personal. Name it whatever you want, no one may understand it anyway and that's ok. In your spiritual journey you're the only one that matters.

I know all these names and labels!

I just believe what I believe - I'm shown what I'm shown ..and that's it.
Turns out I'm an animist, spiritualist, Universalist and all sorts of other things
Who even knew what they were!
Am I a deist or non -deist? I forget the definition.
All these categories make my head spin.
Who cares -man and his labels!

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Committing to a religion and believing in God or Jesus are two different things that may have a lot, little, or nothing at all in common.

Anyone who despises anyone for any reason is showing themselves the limitations of their own commitment to the teachings of Jesus.

What you feel now, that which is "beyond words and concepts", may very well be something you will be expected to give up, if those who define the faith do not believe there is room for it in the mind and soul of the believers within the boundaries they set. You must decide if that is a good trade or not.

I do not believe in a human mind that can ever completely know and understand the mind of God. That is one reason, like Job, I must have faith to love God nevertheless.

I no longer find myself so concerned with the opinion those who seem to be so concerned about the splinter in my eye, yet fail to concern themselves with beam in their own.
