I am interested in becoming a vegetarian, in the last year I have lost 8 stone in weight by having smaller portions. If I were to become a vegetarian I feel my weight would come back because I'd have to fill up on carbs is this the case? What other foods can you eat other than vegetables. Namaste xxx

If you eat sensibly and exercise properly and use your body's energy in the day, you shouldn't gain weight on a vegetarian diet.
There are so many proteins and other foods on a vegetarian or even vegan diet. You don't have to "fill up on carbs". There are so many options for healthy cheap food.
Nut burgers, bean burgers, Quorn (if you're vegetarian, not vegan. Also eggs and cheeses if you are vegetarian, not vegan.) Tofu, lentils, beans, seeds....and all the things that can be made with them or they can be added to.
It's not just about carbs and vegetables. And vegetarian/vegan protein doesn't have to be more expensive than meat if you shop wisely. I find my vegan diet costs much much less than buying meat and fish.

Reamac, I think you will find that if you were to go vegetarian and work on cutting out the dairy, you could quit worrying about your weight pretty much. I'm 61 years old and weigh the same as I did when I was 18 (120 lbs). And remember, milk is full of fat and hormones to make baby calves turn into whopping huge steers in a year so think what it does to the human metabolism.

Another thing that I'm trying out lately is called 'intermittent fasting' which simply means that after 7:00 in the evening, you don't eat anymore and you wait to have 'breakfast' at about 11:00. The reason this is supposed to help with weight control is that in the early hours after 7:00, your body is busy using up the food that you've consumed during the day, but then after about eight hours it has used that up and must use something for energy so it turns to any excess body fat. So you have a couple or more hours when your metabolism is just using stored calories.

Because I eat very lightly and don't gorge at supper, I can't quite make it to 11:00 the next day so I usually have my breakfast (whole grains and seeds and raisins with rice milk) at about 9:30-10:00.

I found everything started to taste better. After I went vegetarian or vegan. It did take a while. But the difference with when I still ate animal food is very clear to me.
Sometimes I wonder what it is. Is it just psychological or also a physichal thing.
