Agnes Keith House

Agnes Keith, a renowned author of several books, and her husband Harry Keith lived at this house between 1946 and 1947.

In her third book, White Man Returns, Agnes shared her experience living in the house.

One chapter of her book quoted this line, “I don’t believe in ghosts. But every day, I see a tall gaunt woman telling her husband goodbye, taking her baby, and walking down the path alone, standing at the bottom of the path and looking back,”

Many visitors also claimed to have witnessed the same scene as described in Agnes’ book, but such incidents only happen once in a blue moon.

In 2021, the Agnes Keith House in Sandakan is being promoted as 'Dark Tourism', by the Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin. Visitors have the opportunity to spend a night at the house to experience for themselves the life of Agnes Keith and to recount her stories shared in the book.
