My dog likes meditation!

Seriously! He's probably not meditating, though one can argue animals are in a constant meditative state.

Lately I've been telling him it's time to meditate and his ears perk up and he starts heading to the bedroom. I seat myself and he settles down right next to me and lays there nice and calm.

Since dogs have a very keen sense of emotional states I'm guessing he senses it in me during meditation and its soothing for him.

Aww, I'm sure he does as well. Cats I'm sure meditate. Our cat has his own built in soothing vibration too . I have a book by Eckhart Tolle called Guardians of Being. "Spiritual teachings from our dogs and cats". There's not much reading to be done from the book but it gets the deep and meaningful message across all the same.

Your dog sounds a wonderful companion. Cats are more do as they please aren't they, if it doesn't suit, they don't do . They used to be worshipped in ancient times and have never forgotten it

Love him and one of his videos was the first that nudged me on my current trajectory. It's on YouTube titled "Eckhart Teaches a Young Man - Full Length Movie".

It was previously uploaded many years ago by someone who probably wasn't authorized, because the other day I noticed a video in one of my playlists was deleted and this was it.

Very good isn't he. Eckhart Tolle and Sadhguru were the main two for me, then Alan Watts also. I'm not sure if I've seen that video.

Yup, Sadhguru's very cool also. I love his YT vids! Another favorite of mine is Swami Sarvapriyananda of the Vedanta Society of NY. He also has a ton of YT vids and he's a very interesting and entertaining speaker.

Hmmm..
What breed is your meditative dog?

The dog friend in my life is a boarder collie/kelpie so he basically has hyperactivity and obsessive traits built into him haha.

Moving meditations seem to work well for him though, like walking and jogging and chasing a ball for 15 hours a day.
One could say that his dedication to play is quite meditative, like a professional athlete with their daily practice routine.

There are quiet moments though too, yesterday I was brushing his coat and we locked into a long eye gazing session, if it was a starring competition, I think he won. Some how I don't recall any blinking... Weird.

I have about 25 emails with eckart toll wisdom in them which remain unopened and ready to be read at some point...

OK... Thanks for the space to share...

Woot... I will go in peace now...

Lol.

Damian is a Keeshond AKA Dutch Barge Dog. He can be a bit hyper at times and he loves to play fetch with his Kong bone. He insists I earn it back after every fetch. LOL!

And yeah, he definitely gets into a flow state during fetch.

I had to google that breed, I am glad that I did!

What a cute dog. They have amazingly thick coats.

Hey, do you feel meditative when you brush your dogs coat?
That's probably a weird question haha...

I kind of find brushing my boarder collie's coat quite relaxing lol.

I dunno, he started to get on my nerves a bit. His organisations is very commercialised. He likes his clothes and toys, it just didn't sit well with me. I watched one of his videos on depression, it seemed lacking in empathy. Just my opinion of course.

I've not seen any from Swami Sarvapriyananda. I don't seem to watch the gurus these days.

I know what you mean, however in my opinion his words are true nonetheless.

Still, he doesn't hold a candle to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Too bad about him because I think he started out on the right foot but wandered off the path. Or maybe he was never on the path?

On the other hand Swami Sarvapriyananda is basically a monk, though I'm not sure if that's the term used in Advaita Vedanta. So in actuality he's not what one would consider a guru with all the negative connotations sometimes associated with that honorific.
