Where does the right and wrong lie? If the person knows they're in for a world of hurt but meets it head on with knowledge they'll get through it?

Nobody wants to hear that they're going through a world of hurt, and giving them a message of sunshine and roses isn't going to make the world of hurt any better. It might make it worse. If it gives people hope they'll get through it, yes it is what mediumship's all about. It's not about the message itself, it's what happens because of the message. Regardless if how we as mediums perceive the message often there are good reasons behind them that we don't know.

The word 'premonition' was wrongly used in the OP, but then with respect I doubt the poster knew the difference anyway. What she was really talking about 'technically' wasn't a premonition but perhaps what she thought a premonition was. What she meant was message.

Thank you, and equally impressive.

I was attending two different churches at the time when the development classes came up, but everything seemed to be tied up with some other weird stuff that was going on in my life at the time. I did some podium work but found it too impersonal and in the beginning, I used to get my knuckles rapped for getting down off the stage. It seemed to come alive then. There were public sessions and private sessions, both one-to-ones and with a small group of other mediums. Just before I was set to go on tour at various fairs I moved to backwater Scotland. While I don't do mediumship per se it still plays a part in how I interact with people, because I seem to attract people who have lost Loved Ones. It's interesting when you feel Spirit coming through and often you can see the reaction as it 'runs off' on others.

This is what's needed in this thread, because mediumship is not about the medium. And it's nice to see a 'non-medium' throw their ten cents in.

I think what you're saying is how most people would take a message of gloom and doom, it's not the gloom and doom it's about but giving people the hope and courage to know that while it's gong to be a hard ride, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Apparently, when the word Medium was first used, it had nothing to do with doom and gloom. It was very positive.

Wow. I did not know this.

The SNU - Spiritualists' National Union - is the United Kingdom's body responsible for the formalised protocols and standards etc. of the religion and philosophy of Modern Spiritualism. It runs courses aimed to develop the existing abilities of mediums and sets minimum standards of competency.

Doing the course and being assessed I always think of as being similar to learning to drive and taking the driving test. Just as when we learn to drive we reach a certain standard of competency and when tested we must achieve the standard needed to pass. I well remember my driving examiner saying I had met the comparatively low standard of competency the test examined me for! My US driving test was even less demanding! Passing a test doesn't leave us competent, experienced drivers and we can go away from the test site and drive in any fashion we choose.

SNU accreditation as a medium is similar to passing a driving test inasmuch as what happens next is down to the individual.

Speaking of classes and tests - a friend went to a class ...and in order to get a Certificate...
you had to flip a coin 100 times and correctly getting
heads or tails right.
He did.
He was listening to 'messages' from the Other Side (his guides)...not his mind or imagination...
clearly he had to 'prove' he knew the difference.
I practiced what he taught me and can tell you a card face down from a deck.
He held meetings to contact spirits...he did not call himself any name like a Medium or Psychic, tho, to me he was certainly a Medium...
and I became his helper.
Wow, did he ever give obscure messages to people from deceased friends that NO one would EVER have known, with weird names even.
Man, he was something , then moved away. He inherited a farm in Iowa.

I suspect there are several people who get messages from Spirit and act upon it.

I have asked Psychics to take a deck of cards, shuffle them and then put all of the black cards on one pile and all of the red cards on another pile. If they had taken 1/2 of the deck and put it on one pile and the rest on the other pile, you would expect the person would be about 50% accurate but when Psychics did it, the results were, in many cases, about 10%.

As for me, I used to live next door to a Casino. I would go there and try to predict what the next 'number' would be on a non-digital Roulette Wheel. If I could predict consistently 3 times in a row, I would play. I came close but never succeeded so never got to play. But there was one woman I noticed who would every once in a while appear at the Roulette Wheel with her entourage. They all would bet on what she put a bet on and would win within about 3 spins.

Just for curiosity, what was the discipline that certificate was awarded for?
