afterlife or Heaven - what's the difference?

What do you call the dimension we'll find ourselves in after death - is it 'Heaven' or is it 'the afterlife'?

Is there a difference between the two and if so, what is it?

I suggest that the afterlife has many dimensions, from the lowest astral planes to the higher planes of beauty beyond description. Not all these planes could be considered as heavenly.

We each find ourselves on whichever plane is appropriate for us. Our entry to the higher planes is dependent on our spiritual vibration or level of development.

"Heaven" has religious connotations, relating particularly to Christianity. I imagine there are many Christian astral heavens for different denominations. The faithful Christian may find himself/herself in such a heaven which matches their particular beliefs, surrounded by others of the same belief. At first this might seem wonderful, but it is another limited state of existence. Eventually the inhabitants of these heavens may want something more, and so they start to explore that which lies beyond their heaven.

The higher astral planes are much more heavenly, without the religious associations. But it is the spiritual planes beyond which are of real interest for those who are willing to let go of everything.

Thus says the literature on the afterlife - it does make sense.

Peace

Put simply, then, the so-called afterlife has many dimensions and one or more of them might be considered as Heaven?

And by inference, I suppose, one or more might be considered as Hell?

Heaven is God's home up atop the clouds line, looks like they're walking on the clouds, the sun never sets in heaven, it's always a beautiful sunny day there, Its also a kingdom.

The afterlife is upon the earth, if you've ever seen the movie Gladiator with Russell Crowe, when he's passes at the end he goes to the afterlife.

Indeed. The lower astral planes seem rather unpleasant. But there is no external judge sentencing a person to eternity in these lower planes. Instead people find themselves there due to their own thoughts and actions, and they can leave anytime by changing their thoughts and actions, perhaps with just a simple prayer for assistance.

This seems to be a consistent theme in all writings about the afterlife.

Peace

I've also seen - 20 odd times - 'What Dreams May Come' where the afterlife regions vary from looking like we might imagine Heaven to be right through to what we might imagine Hell is like.....

Movies can help us visualise what we can't see directly but imagination can also be misleading.

What a great question, bobjob!
I found out so much from Anthony Borgia's, "Life in the Unseen World" free online. ("What Dreams May Come'
based on these very messages from the Other Side...see credits.)

And all the works by Chico Xavier - easiest one to access is the movie "Astral City: A Spiritual Journey"
And the Messages to James E Padgett.
Funny or cool that they all follow a main them.
Then, ya got the information gleaned by Dr. Brian Weiss.
And also, very good are the books by Robert Schwartz...wow...good stuff.

What I get is this:
On the Other Side in our Afterlife...we can be on many different spheres...each suited for to 'us'...hangin out with our musician buddies, doing research, sailing, doing meditation with fellow yogis...these places are temporary places...not Heaven, but neat places of enjoyment and learning!
Then, we go someplace else ---a diff planet or back here for MORE learning and growth.

When in the Higher Celestial Realms these would be more what is thought of as Heaven..
And no one has to agree with all these people above!

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Yes I've seen the others too but I have a personal fondness for 'What Dreams' and have always especially loved the fantastic actor, Robin Williams.

What I've found is that the 'regular' discarnates we hear from - guys and gals like me and thee - found a place they feel is their Heaven. Although the overall 'place' sounds similar from person to person the exact details will vary somewhat for each of us.

That's because what each of us hopes for or expects will vary, some by a small amount but by a very great amount for others. We're as different in 'death' as we were different in incarnate life.
